India has 22 constitutionally recognized scheduled languages, while many more languages and varieties are spoken across the country.

10. Nationalität – Nationality

When talking about countries, students should also learn nationalities.

Important: In German, the country name, language and nationality are different words:

Deutschland → Deutsch → Deutscher/Deutsche
Germany → German → German man/woman

Indien → Hindi → Inder/Inderin
India → Hindi → Indian man/woman

This distinction is especially useful for A1 students when introducing themselves:

Ich heiße Rahul. Ich komme aus Indien. Ich bin Inder. Meine Muttersprache ist Hindi. Ich spreche Hindi, Englisch und Deutsch.
