The important point is:
In German, the thing you like is the subject.
Compare:
- English: I like the shirt.
- Hindi: मुझे यह शर्ट पसंद है।
- Punjabi: ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਕਮੀਜ਼ ਪਸੰਦ ਹੈ।
- German: Die Jacke gefällt mir.
Literally, German is closer to:

gefallen = I like it.

Meaning
When shopping:
passen = to fit
Hindi:
फिट होना / सही आकार का होना
Punjabi:
ਫਿੱਟ ਆਉਣਾ / ਠੀਕ ਆਉਣਾ
The important thing is that the clothing is the subject.
